What credit card is the best one to apply for?

October 19th, 2011

Question by J.Smith: What credit card is the best one to apply for?
I’m a college student looking to apply for a credit card. I will like a credit card that will give me the best, highest, limit, and that has a lot of good rewards. I know I will not be able to get both, but I will like to know what credit card is the best for a college student.

Answer by Alison
Don’t get a credit card unless you can pay the balance off every month. Credit cards charge high rates of interest so you are paying money in interest which buys you absolutely nothing….which is such a waste. The limit depends on credit scoring and usually you start off with a very low limit so they can see if you can handle it – if you don’t pay any money back you will soon find yourself in trouble, and it will be much harder to borrow in future. When I was a student my limit was initially £250, it is now over £8000, but I never spend on it unless I can pay it off – otherwise you needlessly fritter your money away. Please don’t get into something you cannot afford – boring I know, but being sensible has meant I am now able to have a lot more than my friends in terms of house, and other goods…..please don’t learn the lesson the hard way.

What is the best credit card to start with for someone who has little to no credit?

October 17th, 2011

Question by maeganana: What is the best credit card to start with for someone who has little to no credit?
The only credit type thing I have is my cell phone. And I want a credit card to help establish my credit, but I don’t want to apply for a bunch and be getting denied.

Best answer:

Answer by Reena
Your cell phone contract does not show up on your credit report at all.
They may have checked your credit to see whether you have a high enough credit score to qualify for the cell phone plan but it is not a line of credit that is recorded on your credit report.

The best way to get a good deal on a credit card is to talk to your bank. They can evaluate you better since you have checking (and hopefully well maintained savings) accounts with them.

The best credit repair program is none. If you get a credit repair program, then your credit will stay the way it is or get worse. The only way that your credit can be improved is without a credit repair program.

what is the best way to pay your credit cards to maximize your credit score?

September 7th, 2011

Question by wilber: what is the best way to pay your credit cards to maximize your credit score?
Is it better to pay off your credit card statement in full each month or should you leave a small balance each month, like $ 5? I’ve heard conflicting things. For example, paying each bill in full is better for your credit score versus leaving a $ 5 dollar balance. I’ve heard leaving a (small) balance is supposed to show that you know how to pay off a debt and help your credit score even more. I don’t know what to believe. Your thoughts?

Best answer:

Answer by tonytumasone
i am a loan officer and I am positive that leaving any balance at all is no good. i consistently deal with all 3 credit agencies. Paying off your balance in full each month is best for your credit. Also, spreading balances out amongst say…2-3 credit cards is better than having all your debt on one card.

What is the best credit card to open for establishing credit?

August 4th, 2011

Question by araliaceae: What is the best credit card to open for establishing credit?
I’m a college student and have no established credit. I’ve had a debit card for about 6 years, but I’d like to open a credit card to start building credit. I’ve researched MTV and Citi bank Visas, Discover, and American Express, but am still not sure what the best option would be. I plan to use my card sparingly and pay it immediately from my debit account.

You don’t have to have a credit card to establish credit and paying a credit card off every month doesn’t establish credit. They want to see you can make regular payments over a period of time without being late! You can purchase a car or other item and make payments on it and it will establish your credit. You have to be so careful with a credit card, they are out to get you and get as much money out of you as they can! So if you do decide to get one, read the fine print and follow every rule or you can have yourself a bunch of big problems before you can ever get the credit established!

If you have great credit, try someone like Discover or American Express. Even Citi cards have good intro rates.

Chase does too, but I’ve heard things about them going up on you without reason.
