You can often go to the agencies website and buy the report directly from their. Remember to hit all three major agencies. And, if you have been turned down for credit due to your report, they have to give it to you for free.

Some good tips on raising my credit, i’m trying to get a car?

Question by Philip N: Some good tips on raising my credit, i’m trying to get a car?
Well all I owe are a couple of cell phones people, I’m only 21 and that’s all I had since I been 18. My credit is like a 549, and I was wondering what I could to raise it?

Best answer:

Answer by Frank Fitton
There certainly are no quick fixes in attempting to raise your credit score. The most important thing is to stay on top of things and know whats in there. There very well could be errors in your credit report due to things misrepresented, even fixing these is going to take time. In order to raise it though you have to know what’s in it for sure, as well as exactly what effects it.

One area I think that is very important to address in these times. Is to make sure that you don’t lose any of your cards. Companies are canceling cards that are not being used. This could be really damaging if its one of your oldest cards. Remember this, and just use the card every once in awhile to keep it in rotation. You need that available credit in theory at least.

Question by steph: I have horrible credit any tips on how to improve it????
When I was 18 I had gotten my first credit card… then a second then a third… i max them out and regret doing that!!!! I’m now 26 and 2 yrs ago i paid off all my debt… But now I need to improve my credit score… Any tips on how to do so?

Answer by RAY
You should be under way of having a higher score already. You don’t need tons of cards as you well know. Just get one and use it responsibly. Save your need for credit for a car, home and other assets instead of liabilities. If you have to put a meal out or a pair of jeans on a credit card, the reality is that you cannot afford those things. You’ve been in the credit card trap… don’t go there again. Get copies of your credit reports and make sure they are up to date.

Credit Report?

Question by ▐▀▀✿▀▀▌ LIL BEAR ▐▄▄✿▄▄▌: Credit Report?
Is it true that your credit report gets a bad mark every time you check your credit score? If so, why is that? Shouldn’t you be commended for actually caring about your score as opposed to people who don’t care and ruin theirs?

Best answer:

Answer by thepennymine
Every time you look at your credit score, you are going through a credit agency. It cannot recognize that it is you yourself looking at your score, all it can tell is it’s someone looking at your credit.

Thus, to credit agencies, it looks like you’re applying for a credit card or some other form of credit, which is what causes your credit to go down for the short term.

You don’t really need to look at your credit more than once per year anyways.

Credit Repair?

Question by boop71: Credit Repair?
How long does a negative credit history stay on your credit report? I live in New York. Also, when collection agencies report to the credit bureaus every month, does that prolong the length of time that delinquency stays on your report? For example, an account has a “last reported” date of 03/2008 but the last payment was made in 2002, does the 2008 date prolong that negative report to be deleted from the credit report?

Best answer:

Answer by mycredit wealth,com
7 years plus approx 180 for the account to be charged off.

The negative account will stay on your credit for 7 years. Now most people will disagree with me. However, I know from personal experience they do not always remove the information 7 years after the account has been charged off, so keep up with your credit and make sure the original and the collection agencies are removed seven years from the charge off date.

Also in New York the SOL is 6 years,

There are 3 different credit bureaus (experian, trans union and equifax) that each have a different formula for calculating the score. Most creditors will average them. They should be all roughly similar.
