Question by Killa Billa: Financial Aid….?
I applied for financial aid and was approved. However, it says things about Subsidized and UnSubsidized loans.
I do not want a loan it tells me how much I can get. I wanted the tuition to go down. I though financial aid was a way of asking the school to help by not charging me so much.
I only plan on doing this my first year of college because the rest is paid for. I am struggling to make the tuition and so I thought financial aid paid it for me.
Can someone explain what ways there are that I can reduce the ammount I owe or remove it completely.
Yeah making payments is the answer so no smart aXX answers.
You get the idea explain financial aid and all the ways it is available.
I qualify for the first kid in the family to go to college or graduate whatever it is. I don’t know ho to get that though.

financial aid doesn’t mean that someone will pay it for you, it just means that they will assist to make it easier. the loans you got are a good thing because now you dont have to worry about paying that amount out of pocket right now. if you need more aid, call 1-800-522-7562 and they can point you in the right direction. if you didn’t qualify for any grants by the fafsa, then there is no more free money, sorry. you gotta pay it yourself now.

Question by Taylor F: Financial Aid?
I am a little confused as to how financial aid works at colleges. I know you fill out FASFA and CSS/PROFILE. However, if a college costs $ 40,000 and you cannot afford that, will you qualify for aid? Is that when need based scholarships, grants, and loans are used? Thanks.

FAFSA takes many factors into consideration when deciding how much you are awarded. Some factors include you age, the college you with to attend, your student standing, your (and if your a dependant, your parents) income and living situation.
It also looks at whether you plan to attend full or part time. It is pretty much impossible for anyone to predict how much you will be awarded since available governmental funds change according to year and time of year.
Using your example, if your college costs 40,000 a year, you might get grants, loans, or a combination of the two, depending the supply and demand of funds at the time of your application.
I started my associates after I was no longer considered a dependant of my parent’s, making me eligible for more money. For my associates, I had all of my school paid for with grants, which I did not have to pay back. Once I reached the bachelors level, I received grants for about half my tuition and loands (which I do have to pay back) for my other half. Now that I am going for my masters, I am only receiving loans.

Question by Tara M: Financial Aid?
I applied for financial aid by the April 1st deadline or whenever it is. My school then sent me a letter saying they had received my application for financial aid. Also with the letter there was a list of documents I needed to send in to the school. Some of the documents being my w-2s and my mom’s. This will be my 2nd year at this school and I didn’t have to turn all of that in prior to my 1st year. Will I still get financial aid if I’m this late turning in all of that information?
Best answer:
Answer by Found-1
You won’t get any financial aid until you turn in everything they ask and they process the results of your documents. (This takes some time so don’t turn in your stuff two weeks before classes start and expect to have money the week school starts.)
You were selected for verification. This occurs to about 30% of the fafsa apps. Apparently you were not selected last year.

You have to apply to the schools to find out. The only people who can tell you how much aid a college can give you is that college!

Question by Serendipity: financial aid?
I am applying for financial aid and it is asking me on the form for the school code and i am not sure wich school i want to go to yet because i am trying to do it all online. I haven’t decided yet. what can i do?
Best answer:
Answer by srs2teach
You can put several schools on there. And you can always go back later and take some off to add others. Go ahead and put the school codes of several schools you are considering. This way, the different schools will be able to send you a “financial aid package.” You can use this information to help you determine where to attend school. Some schools will be able to offer you more money then others.

Question by Ash1227: financial aid?
I started online school, because i have two kids one vehical and my husband has it all day to work. Anyway, if i were to have attended my community college it would have been paid for me because of my financial situation. i was granted financial aid through university of pheonix, but i have to pay it back, what is the difference?Maybe im just confused.
Best answer:
Answer by future marriage therapist
The difference is probably the type of financial aid that was offered. For Univ. of Pheonix you probably got a loan and not a grant or scholarship. Loans you do have to payback. But most grants and all scholarships you don’t have to payback. Also just an fyi, did you check to see if your community college offers classes around your husband’s schedule. Usually they have day, evening and night classes.

Your level of financial assistance from your college this year is based on the FAFSA that you completed which looks at your earnings from 2005. When you complete your FAFSA for the 2007-2008 academic year, it will be based on your earnings from 2006. So, depending on when you started your new job, your financial aid may not change until the 2008-2009 academic year, when you complete the FAFSA with your 2007 earnings. The financial aid office bases your financial aid package solely on the information from the FAFSA and any other forms that they may require.
