There certainly are no quick fixes in attempting to raise your credit score. The most important thing is to stay on top of things and know whats in there. There very well could be errors in your credit report due to things misrepresented, even fixing these is going to take time. In order to raise it though you have to know what’s in it for sure, as well as exactly what effects it.

One area I think that is very important to address in these times. Is to make sure that you don’t lose any of your cards. Companies are canceling cards that are not being used. This could be really damaging if its one of your oldest cards. Remember this, and just use the card every once in awhile to keep it in rotation. You need that available credit in theory at least.

Is a credit card a good idea to build credit after bankruptcy?

November 26th, 2011

Question by dx7alex: Is a credit card a good idea to build credit after bankruptcy?
I have an unsecured $ 250 limit card that I got to re-establish my credit after my discharge. Problem is these cards are full of fees and monthly dues but they do report to all 3 bureaus which is good. Am I going to be on the same situation no matter who gives me a credit card as far as fees and high interests? I wonder if a secured credit card would help me better? Any suggestions?

What you need to do is work on paying off your debts, and making sure you pay your bills on time. That is the only way to repair your credit. Most of the companies that say they can reduce what you owe, etc… just completely ruin your credit, so you might owe them less, but your credit is trash. Unfortunately it cannot be done overnight, and it will take a while before your credit is completely repaired. You should be able to get a cell phone, but you might be required to give the carrier a deposit. So pay your bills on time, pay off your debts. If you have credit cards, pay them off, or transfer the balance to a card with a really low interest rate, but do not close the cc accounts if they have a balance.

The only legal way to repair your credit is to start making good choices and let your previous bad choices get further behind you.

If an item is false, you can ask the credit agencies to verify or remove the item, but you can’t do this with bad items that are reported correctly.

Any company that offers to repair your credit is either scamming you, engaging in illegal activity or both. If you are caught doing something illegal with a credit repair company, you will be in just as much trouble as they will be.
