How long does a negative credit history stay on your credit report? I live in New York. Also, when collection agencies report to the credit bureaus every month, does that prolong the length of time that delinquency stays on your report? For example, an account has a “last reported” date of 03/2008 but the last payment was made in 2002, does the 2008 date prolong that negative report to be deleted from the credit report?

7 years plus approx 180 for the account to be charged off.
The negative account will stay on your credit for 7 years. Now most people will disagree with me. However, I know from personal experience they do not always remove the information 7 years after the account has been charged off, so keep up with your credit and make sure the original and the collection agencies are removed seven years from the charge off date.
Also in New York the SOL is 6 years,

I have paid for alllllll of my old collection accounts and I’m just waiting for them to drop off of my credit reports. I’ve been looking into credit repair service on line and wondering if they can actually help. All of the items on my reports are actually MINE and I did actually owe them, but they are all FINALLY paid off. Is there any hope to get them removed quickly?

I had a credit card go into collections 18 months ago. I settled for payment less than full with the condition that It would be considered on my credit report as Closed Paid in Full. However on my report it states “Charge -OFF – Settled less than full. I have since contact the credit card company and received a letter that the accounts were closed and paid in full. How do I go about getting my credit report updated to raise my score? Also my current Score is a 670. What should my score raise to?

670 is prime, the charge offs arent hurting your score.

I made some bad choices, and it has ruined my credit…counting medical bills and school loans its around 15k. Has anyone used one of those programs that combines them all in to one payment? Do they really help your credit? Other options? Thanks,
