Question by Philip N: Some good tips on raising my credit, i’m trying to get a car?
Well all I owe are a couple of cell phones people, I’m only 21 and that’s all I had since I been 18. My credit is like a 549, and I was wondering what I could to raise it?

There certainly are no quick fixes in attempting to raise your credit score. The most important thing is to stay on top of things and know whats in there. There very well could be errors in your credit report due to things misrepresented, even fixing these is going to take time. In order to raise it though you have to know what’s in it for sure, as well as exactly what effects it.

One area I think that is very important to address in these times. Is to make sure that you don’t lose any of your cards. Companies are canceling cards that are not being used. This could be really damaging if its one of your oldest cards. Remember this, and just use the card every once in awhile to keep it in rotation. You need that available credit in theory at least.

You should be under way of having a higher score already. You don’t need tons of cards as you well know. Just get one and use it responsibly. Save your need for credit for a car, home and other assets instead of liabilities. If you have to put a meal out or a pair of jeans on a credit card, the reality is that you cannot afford those things. You’ve been in the credit card trap… don’t go there again. Get copies of your credit reports and make sure they are up to date.

January 15th, 2012

Question by Ginger: What are your Credit Tips ?
I’ve had established credit for a good number of years now, and over the years I’ve learned things I wish I had known in the beginning. To make this a question, and to be able to share it with this new younger credit generation, what are your positive credit (credit cards, savings, etc.) tips that you have found that have worked for you to keep debt down, and keep a good credit score ?? I’ll name a couple and everyone else please add on so we can help new ones to this crazy credit card game.
don’t open too many cards at once.

Watch getting those Department store credit cards, as their interest rates are generally VERY high.

Any tips on how to finance startup cost for small business with no money down but excellent credit?

January 12th, 2012

Question by jmb563: Any tips on how to finance startup cost for small business with no money down but excellent credit?
We are going to sell autos on eBay motors and off our lot, auto detailing and repairs. We have been to a couple of local banks and just don’t quite seem to fit their criteria. We’ve always been self employed in some form so our tax returns are pathetic. We don’t have any money to put into the business which, well, that’s why we need financing. Am I to believe that a business can’t be started unless you have thousands of your own money to put into it? SBA apparantly requires 25% of the loan amount to be available from us as cash. If I had that money, I probably wouldn’t need much of a loan. Anyway, I’m a bit frustrated because we’re not fitting into the commercial lending ‘box’. We are talented intelligent people with excellent credit but short on cash. Any ideas?

You can try Bank of America or a local credit union. They will give you basically a credit card with a limit up to $ 100,000.

Do you have tips on how to get credit from cable/telephone?

January 5th, 2012

Question by Bozz Mozz: Do you have tips on how to get credit from cable/telephone?
Our utilities have been out since Friday (ice storm). Electric just came back yesterday. No idea when cable or phone will be back. I’m told it’s a huge battle to get credited for outage days from the cable and phone companies. What’s the best way to accomplish this with the least amount of battling?
